Here I am thinking I am so clever with my title for this post.  You see, my neighborhood is called Daybreak and I took the picture at dusk.  Ha!  So, here is a little glimpse into the Utopian world I live in…wm web_MG_9798 crop 5x7

I have been working on a big project to photograph all of the temples in the Salt Lake Valley.  While out taking pictures of the Oquirrh Mountain Temple, I happened to glance the other direction.  As soon as I saw the clouds, I simply had to take a picture of the street view of the neighborhood.  Aren’t those clouds amazing?!?

Keep checking back in to see the temple portraits I have been working on.  On the day that I release each temple picture for purchase, I will announce it first on my blog and even offer a discount!  Think huge wall portrait.  Or Christmas gifts.  I have spent many recent sunrise and sunset hours focusing (literally) on the temples and am in awe of their beauty and majesty.

Three Graces

September 29, 2009

About a year and a half ago, my sister Karli saw Three Graces in concert and posted this link on her blog.  Not only is the song amazing, but I am really loving the cover portrait!  Finding inspiration all around me…
Click Here to Listen to the Song (and see the picture I want to re-create someday)

I am missing my girls!  School takes up such a huge part of our day, then between friends, homework, etc. we hardly have any time together.  Through all the craziness, the girls have been losing their patience with each other more often.  It just makes me really sad.  So, this week we are doing an experiment in our house.  We are restricting “friend time” to Friday afternoons and Saturdays, reserving weekdays and Sundays for family time.  I am really hoping it will help things feel less rushed/more in control around our house.  I really miss the 5 hour school days we enjoyed at the charter school the girls attended in Arizona.  Even with less hours, the girls were more challenged than they are now with their 7 hour school days.  My sister, Holly, recently made the decision to home-school her children.  I wish I had it in me to be a fabulous home-school parent.  But, I know myself.  I have home-schooled before.  I know that I do need a few hours to myself each day.  I know that I am not as creative or motivated as I would need to be to create the fun, inspiring lessons I want them to experience.  But, I do feel the need to find better balance.  A neighbor was telling me that some public schools will allow partial enrollment.  That would be perfect for me.  I just need to look into the available options.  I need to have my children back.  I need them to spend enough time learning and playing together that they “remember” to cherish their relationships.

A few of my favorites of baby Maylee!  Taken down on Soda Row…one of my favorite locations in Daybreak.

Before Baby W went in for his first haircut, his cute Mom scheduled a session for him. Don’t you just love that little curl in the back?

As a side note: I cannot imagine being able to wait until the one year mark to give my child a haircut, but that is because my children have insane amounts of hair. When Miss Priss was a baby, everywhere I went people commented on how much hair she had. It was so common that it started to irritate me. I felt like saying, “Have you never seen a child with hair before?!?” But, of course I didn’t say that. I behaved myself and sweetly said, “I know, right? It is pretty fun to be able to braid and curl her hair, even though she is only 5 months old!” And then, the Bub. I think he got his first haircut when he was only six days old. I was getting ready to take his official newborn pictures, and the mullet just wasn’t working for me! Ha Ha!

Anyways, can I just say that one thing I LOVE about my job is that I get to freeze time. I can capture that nostalgia into an image. Whenever his Mom looks at this picture, she will remember baby W, pre “Big-Boy Haircut,” sweet baby innocence. Ahhh. I just love it!

Baby L’s parents contacted me from out of state to see if I could photograph their newborn if they travelled to Salt Lake City. Ummm, let me think….YES!!!! I was beyond thrilled (and flattered) that they chose me as their photographer and that they were willing to travel here to make it happen. As you can see, she is as cute as a button!

The Foof posing for the camera down on Soda Row, the newest shopping complex, right here in the middle of Daybreak.  We went down for the grand opening last weekend and our entire family participated in the neighborhood 5K.  Miss Priss and Mae Mae have been really interested in running ever since we went and watched Daddy run the 4th of July 5K.  They have been asking when they could run in a race for months.  This was the perfect opportunity.  I loaded the Foof and the Bub into the stroller and we walked while Daddy ran with the two older girls.  Miss Priss ran almost the entire 3.2 miles!  I was impressed!  After the race, we each grabbed a popcicle and headed over the the party on Soda Row, complete with live bands on stage, a rock climbing wall, an obstacle course/participation tour of the new gymnastics facility, etc.   I love the “community feel” here in Daybreak.
